Remembering John Dunn

A smiling man wearing glasses and a baseball cap, dressed in a jacket, is in front of a vehicle.

John Dunn passed away in February after a prolonged illness. This is a great loss to our community and Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority.

John was the mayor of Roseburg from 1981 to 1985. John was one of the community leaders that banded together to educate the citizens of Roseburg of the need to support a regional sanitary sewer agency. Through his work, the City of Roseburg Charter was changed to allow a regional sewer agency to provide service to the residents.

John joined the RUSA board in 1988 and served our customers for the next 38 years.

John worked to expand RUSA infrastructure to the north to include the property along Hwy 99 N. to Wilbur by the establishment of a local improvement district (LID). John also worked to expand RUSA’s infrastructure to the east toward Dixonville utilizing an LID.

John worked with the Board to fight for the ability of RUSA to utilize natural treatment to polish and cool the effluent discharge from the WRF before returning clean cold water to the South Umpqua River.
